A Mother-Daughter Stay Enjoying Japanese Home Cooking in Tokyo

This is a real stay experience for those who would like to experience everyday life in Japan while visiting Tokyo. At Kinoie, guests can enjoy a stay that feels more like living in Japan than staying in a hotel, thanks to our tatami rooms and kitchen-equipped space. In this article, we would like to introduce the stay of a mother and daughter who visited us from the United Kingdom in early summer 2025.

With Ginza Station about 10 minutes away, Kinoie offers a convenient location where guests can easily enjoy walking around the city, shopping for ingredients, and cooking their own meals.

Hello, my name is Shioya, and I am a staff member at this accommodation.
Today, I would like to introduce the stay of a mother and daughter from the United Kingdom who stayed with us in early summer 2025.
The mother, in her 50s, and her daughter, in her 20s, stayed with us for three days and experienced Japanese home cooking and everyday life in Tokyo.
I would like to share some of their impressions and memorable episodes from their stay, based on what I heard directly from them.

A Mother and Daughter Enjoy Shopping for Ingredients at a Japanese Supermarket

A Food Culture Experience That Begins with Grocery Shopping

One of the things the two guests were especially looking forward to during their stay was choosing ingredients at a Japanese supermarket. Soon after arriving, they went to a nearby store and took their time looking at vegetables, fish, tofu, seasonings, and other items. Ingredients they do not usually see in the United Kingdom, as well as the way products are displayed in Japanese stores, seemed fresh and interesting to them. I still remember how they smiled and said, “It’s interesting just to look around.”

They Were Also Interested in Miso and Dashi

They were particularly interested in basic seasonings such as miso, dashi, and soy sauce. While they were surprised by the variety, they carefully chose each item, saying that these must be essential for creating the flavor of Japanese home cooking. They told us that experiencing this everyday side of Japan, something that is not always easy to encounter by simply visiting sightseeing spots, left a strong impression on them.

Enjoying Japanese Home Cooking in the Kitchen

Using the ingredients they had bought, they enjoyed cooking Japanese home-style dishes in the kitchen of their room. They chose dishes such as miso soup and grilled fish—nothing overly complicated, but meals that gave them a real sense of Japanese everyday cooking. They told us that the food was simple, but that it was interesting how clearly they could taste the ingredients. It seemed to give them a calm and enjoyable time, a little different from an ordinary trip.

Cooking Together Became a Special Memory for Mother and Daughter

The time spent cooking itself seemed to become an important memory for them. Instead of eating out for every meal while traveling, they chose ingredients together, cooked together, and ate together. They told us that this made them feel as though they had come a little closer to everyday life in Japan while staying in Tokyo. It was a way of spending time that is unique to Kinoie and not easy to experience during a typical hotel stay.

A Well-Balanced Tokyo Stay with Ginza and Neighborhood Walks

Enjoying Both Ingredient Shopping and Sightseeing Without Rush

Kinoie offers convenient access to Ginza Station in about 10 minutes, making it a useful base for shopping for ingredients and walking around the city. The two guests not only shopped for ingredients for cooking, but also enjoyed the atmosphere of Tokyo while strolling through the surrounding area. Rather than rushing from one major sightseeing spot to another, they seemed to enjoy taking their time and savoring each moment, which suited this stay very well.

A Comfortable Balance Between Going Out and Relaxing Indoors

They enjoyed their stay in Tokyo at an easy pace: walking around the city, returning to the accommodation to cook, and going out again to another area the next day. They told us, “It feels just right to have both the enjoyment of going out and the time to relax quietly in the room.” We were very happy to hear that they experienced the kind of stay that feels true to Kinoie.

The mother and daughter from the United Kingdom introduced in this article enjoyed a three-day stay while experiencing Japanese home cooking and everyday life in Tokyo. Choosing ingredients at a supermarket, cooking in the kitchen, walking through the city, and returning to the accommodation—each of these moments seemed to help them discover a side of Tokyo different from ordinary sightseeing.

As staff, we were also impressed by how happily they talked about the ingredients they found, and by their words: “This is the kind of stay we wanted to try.” It reminded us once again that one of Kinoie’s greatest charms is the chance to spend time that feels a little closer to everyday life, even while traveling.

For guests who want to experience not only sightseeing in Tokyo but also Japanese everyday life and food culture, or for mothers and daughters who would like to enjoy a relaxed stay together, Kinoie is a perfect place to stay. Please feel free to visit us.
